The government has initiated infrastructure development projects at 109 large community schools across Nepal to further strengthen the growing interest of students and parents in public education. The initiative prioritizes community schools that have achieved strong academic results and enroll more than 2,000 students.
According to Minister for Education and Sports Sasmita Pokharel, a total budget of Rs 6.54 billion has been allocated in the current fiscal year to strengthen infrastructure at these schools. The minister described the initiative as a historic step towards transforming the education sector.
Minister Pokharel informed that Rs 5.34 billion has already been released to 89 schools in the first phase of the project. The allocated funds will support the accelerated construction of modern, three-storey buildings with 12 rooms each, at an estimated cost of Rs 60 million per school.
The new buildings will include modern classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, and well-stocked libraries. According to the minister, these facilities are expected to provide students with a safer, more organized, and more effective learning environment.
Minister Pokharel acknowledged that while high student enrollment in some community schools is an encouraging development, other schools continue to struggle with declining student numbers. The government is aware of this disparity and has initially prioritized infrastructure improvements at larger schools as part of its efforts to address the imbalance.
Expressing a commitment to improving the quality of education in community schools, the minister stated:
"I would also like to express my commitment to strengthening the educational quality and physical infrastructure of all community schools across the country equally in the coming days and eliminating this disparity once and for all."
The minister further emphasized the government's commitment to addressing disparities and structural challenges among community schools through improvements in educational quality and physical facilities.
Meanwhile, Minister Pokharel expressed gratitude to teachers, parents, and students for their tireless efforts in shaping the country's future. The minister also called on all stakeholders to work together and cooperate in transforming community education.
