Newly Appointed Nepal Sanskrit University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khatiwada Takes Oath
Newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Nepal Sanskrit University, Prof. Dr. Bhim Prasad Khatiwada, has taken the oath of office and secrecy.
Minister for Education and Sports and the university’s Pro-Chancellor, Sasmit Pokharel, administered the oath at a programme held at the Ministry of Education on Tuesday.
Prime Minister and University Chancellor Balen Shah appointed Khatiwada as Vice-Chancellor earlier on Tuesday.
According to the Ministry of Education, he was appointed under the Procedure, 2083 BS, based on the recommendation of the Selection and Recommendation Committee formed to recommend candidates for the university’s vacant positions of Vice-Chancellor, Rector, and Registrar.
Background of Vice-Chancellor Khatiwada
Born in Jhapa and professionally based in Dharan, Sunsari, Khatiwada has long been active in Sanskrit literature, teaching, and research.
He has made significant contributions to the academic development of Pindeshwor Vidyapeeth, Sunsari and Nepal Sanskrit University. He has also previously served as the university’s Acting Vice-Chancellor and Rector.
A gold medallist in Sanskrit literature, Khatiwada conducted research on Sanskrit works written by Nepali scholars. He earned a PhD in dramaturgy on the topic “Establishing the Tragic Nature of Tragic Drama” [दुःखान्त नाटकको दुःखान्तता सिद्धि].

Following the oath-taking ceremony, newly appointed Vice-Chancellor Khatiwada expressed his commitment to improving the university’s academic quality, protecting and managing its institutional assets, and further strengthening study and research related to art, literature, culture, and religion.
Known as Nepal’s second-oldest university, Nepal Sanskrit University provides teaching and research from the bachelor’s level to the PhD level in Sanskrit language, literature, philosophy, culture, and religion as part of higher education in Nepal.
