National Information Commission Directs Public Bodies to Update Information Officers’ Details
Kathmandu — The National Information Commission has issued a directive to all public bodies to update the contact details of responsible officials, including information officers, and to make the flow of information more effective.
This notice was issued after the Commission received complaints that the details of designated information officers in public bodies—including their name, position, division/section name, email, and mobile number—had not been updated; office phone calls were not being answered; and emails were not being checked and acted upon on a daily basis.
Pursuant to the Right to Information Act, 2064 and the Right to Information Rules, 2065, the Commission has informed all public bodies under Section 19 (cha) of the Act in order to make the protection, promotion, and implementation of the right to information more effective.
Directions to Be Followed by Public Bodies
The details of the directives issued by the National Information Commission for compliance by public bodies are as follows:

Make separate arrangements for a dedicated phone/mobile number and an official email address for the information officer.

Display the information officer’s full name, position, phone/mobile number, email address, room number, and photograph clearly and visibly on the office website and within the office premises.

Ensure that citizens can easily contact the information officer by phone or email.

Check the information officer’s email daily, register received applications at the office, and ensure that information is provided in accordance with the rules.

Maintain separate records of requests made for information to the public body, as well as records of information provided or refused by such bodies, and regularly report this information to the Commission.
