Results of the 7th National Astronomy Olympiad Published

Nepal Astronomical Society has published the results of the third and final phase (closed camp) of this year's 'Seventh National Astronomy Olympiad, 2020'.

According to the results of the third and final phase (closed camp) of the 'Seventh National Astronomy Olympiad, 2020' held from 10 to 16 Sawan, Akash Gurung of St. Xavier's School, Jawalakhel, Lalitpur became the first in the senior category, said Suresh Bhattarai, president of the society.

Sanjay Shrestha of Rainbow Academic Homes Secondary School, Pokhara, Kaski has won the junior side competition this year. He informed that Nepali students in the age group of 13 to 19 from class 8 to 12 will be able to participate in the program. Thirty-nine students selected from the first and second rounds in all seven provinces of Nepal actively participated in the closed camp. The closed camp was operated virtually this year amid the Covid-19 epidemic.

In the closed camp, the students were given theoretical and experimental classes on astronomy and space science through Nepali and foreign subject matter experts at home and abroad. Students who excel in the camp will be given the opportunity to participate in various International Astronomy Olympiads to be held this year. Chairman Suresh Bhattarai said that the International Olympiad will be conducted in a virtual way this year due to fear of Corona.

Although the epidemic of Covid-19 had created an uncomfortable situation for organizing the program, the closed camp was conducted in a virtual way so as not to waste the hard work and diligence of the students. Although the experimental class is difficult to do as expected, the National Astronomy Olympiad has been able to run other classes better than in the past.
