Home Ministry Notified After Suspicious Documents Found in Study Visa Recommendations
Kathmandu — After suspicious documents and fake receipts were found to have been used in the study visa recommendation process, the Ministry of Education and Sports has written to the Ministry of Home Affairs to conduct a detailed investigation and move forward with legal action.
Through a letter sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday, the ministry requested an investigation and necessary legal process, stating that serious doubts had arisen over documents related to study visa recommendations issued for foreign students.
According to the ministry, a recommendation for a study visa had been made after a letter was received in the name of Valmiki Vidyapeeth, Kathmandu, with the subject “Regarding Recommendation for Academic Study Visa.” However, when the ministry team conducted field monitoring at the concerned educational institution, it stated that although the letter issued in the name of the recommended student and the attached revenue receipt appeared genuine, serious inconsistencies were found in the person’s admission and study details mentioned in the letter.
During the monitoring, the ministry concluded that the claim that the person was studying at the concerned educational institution as a foreign student could not be verified. The ministry stated that some documents and receipts submitted to the ministry also appeared suspicious and fake in nature.
In this context, the ministry also stated that another letter previously received in the name of the same Vidyapeeth was found to be fake. As the preliminary investigation raised questions about the credibility of the submitted documents, the recommendation letter issued for the study visa has also been cancelled.
In the letter sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the ministry has requested a detailed investigation into all parties related to the incident and the initiation of legal action in accordance with the prevailing law. It has also pointed out the need for further coordination among the concerned bodies to prevent misuse of the study visa recommendation process.
In Nepal, when recommending visas for foreign students for study purposes, the process is carried out on the basis of official documents related to admission, study, and fees issued by the concerned educational institution. It has also been stated that, while recommending a study visa, it must be ensured that the student is genuinely engaged in study.
