
Best Community Schools in Kathmandu Valley for Grade 11
With the announcement of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) results, many students have begun searching for suitable schools for Grade 11 studies. For such students, community schools in the Kathmandu Valley are becoming strong alternatives. Due to their affordable fees and quality education, some of these schools are experiencing overwhelming student demand for Grade 11 admission.
There are over 27,000 community schools operating across the country. Some of these schools function at a level comparable to private institutions. The results show that a few community schools even offer higher-quality education than their private counterparts.
Vishwo Niketan Secondary School, Tripureshwar
Vishwo Niketan Secondary School, located in Tripureshwar, is one of the leading community schools. It offers courses in Science, Management, Law, Humanities, and Education at the Grade 11 level. From Early Childhood Development to Grade 12, the school has enrolled 4,300 students in the current academic year.
Last year, 1,300 students took the entrance exam for Grade 11; 600 passed and enrolled. The school expects a further rise in Grade 11 enrollments this year.
Having achieved a 100% pass rate in this year’s SEE results, the school is recognized for delivering quality education. Grade 11 fees vary by subject. The school provides modern labs, a library, and technology-friendly, child-friendly learning environments. According to Principal Herambharaj Kandel, the school emphasizes quality education at an affordable cost. Scholarships are available for talented students.
Kandel noted that 90% of the teachers at the school enroll their own children in the same institution. The annual fees for Science stream students are NPR 35,000 for Grade 11 and NPR 30,000 for Grade 12. For Humanities, it is NPR 12,000 for Grade 11 and NPR 10,000 for Grade 12. Law stream students pay NPR 18,000 for Grade 11 and NPR 15,000 for Grade 12.
This year, 15 students from the school secured full scholarships for MBBS programs. Principal Kandel emphasized that trained teachers and modern labs, including computers for Science students, make the school more effective than private institutions. Special attention is given to academically weaker students, and scholarships are provided to those from low-income backgrounds. Students from across the country come to study at this school.
Padma Kanya Secondary School, Dillibazar
Padma Kanya Secondary School in Dillibazar also provides high-quality education. As a girls-only school, its popularity is steadily growing. It offers programs in Management, Humanities, and Civil Engineering, along with Beauty Education.
The school has been teaching Beauty Education as part of its curriculum for the past three years—the first of its kind in Nepal. Principal Rita Tiwari shared that practical sessions are emphasized more than theory in this subject. Students pursuing Beauty Education are sent to beauty parlors for internships.
While it may take time to find employment with other subjects, students of Beauty Education often start working right after completing Grade 12.
Prithvi Narayan Secondary School, Tarkeshwor Municipality, Lolang
Prithvi Narayan Secondary School in Lolang achieved a 100% pass rate in this year’s SEE. Known for its low tuition fees, the school actively engages students in extracurricular activities. Scholarships are provided for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
According to Principal Narayan Sharma, many of the school's alumni now serve in senior government roles, including secretary-level positions. Some students have also secured full MBBS scholarships. The school combines theoretical and practical learning, offering extra classes to support academically weak students.
Tripadma Secondary School, Bhaktapur Durbar Square
Tripadma Secondary School, located in Bhaktapur Durbar Square, is recognized as one of the district’s best. It recently achieved a 100% pass rate in SEE. The school offers Science, Management, and Humanities programs.
Among Management students, Hotel Management and Computer Science are the most popular subjects. Since 2070 BS, the school has also offered Civil Engineering starting from Grade 9. According to Principal Ram Hada, group project work is encouraged to promote creativity and practical learning.
The school, known for delivering quality education at an affordable cost, has been recognized as one of the best by the Educational Quality Testing Center. Students receive scholarships from the municipality, and extracurricular programs are organized regularly alongside academics.
Arniko Secondary School, Gamcha Dadhikot, Bhaktapur
Arniko Secondary School, located in Gamcha Dadhikot, Bhaktapur, is also considered among the top institutions. The school offers Management and Humanities programs, including Journalism, Computer Science, and Hotel Management.
This year, 19 students from the school earned an ‘A+’ in the SEE. Since last year, the school has introduced Hotel Management classes. Students visit different hotels every week as part of practical training. Currently, 500 students are enrolled in Grades 11 and 12.
For Grade 11, the monthly tuition is NPR 700, and the admission fee is NPR 15,000. According to Principal Mahendra Kumar Shrestha, the school provides NPR 5,000 annual scholarships to 17 bright students through a dedicated scholarship fund. Teachers also receive regular training. Students from Ramechhap, Dolakha, Sindhupalchok, and Kavrepalanchok come here to study.
The school, offering education equivalent to private institutions, emphasizes both practical learning and extracurricular engagement. The administration plans to enhance teaching quality and expand student enrollment in the coming years.
