Tribhuvan University Concludes 51st Convocation
Kathmandu, 2082 Poush 10 - Tribhuvan University (TU) held its 51st convocation ceremony on Thursday at the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwar.
Students who completed their studies between 2081 Asar 1 and 2082 Jestha 31 participated in the convocation.
Eligibility and Participation Figures
According to TU, a total of 89,191 students who passed examinations across various levels were eligible for the convocation.
However, only 16,380 students submitted formal applications at the Office of the Controller of Examinations to participate in the ceremony.
In TU’s 50th convocation held last year, 74,149 candidates were eligible, but only 14,308 applied to attend the ceremony.
Number of Graduates and Degree-Level Breakdown
Of the 89,191 eligible students this year, 16,380 were conferred degrees at the convocation held in Kathmandu.
The following graduates took part in the ceremony from bachelor’s level to PhD:

During the program, 22 students who achieved the highest results from various faculties were awarded convocation medals.
Prime Minister Sushila Karki’s Address
Addressing the convocation, Prime Minister and University Chancellor Sushila Karki said that investment in education must be increased.
She stated that it is necessary to increase investment in education in Nepal and end party-based politicization within the university.
She also said that collective effort is needed to make the university a platform for academic debate, and that unnecessary party interference in academic administration has continuously weakened Nepal’s higher education.
She further noted that the need is being felt to revise the arrangement in which the Prime Minister serves as the Chancellor of the university, and that consultations and preparatory work are underway on this matter.
She also emphasized that it is necessary to end the situation in which students have to go abroad for higher education.
Chief Guest: Nobel Laureate Professor Dr Takaaki Kajita
The chief guest of the ceremony, Professor Dr Takaaki Kajita, the 2015 Nobel Prize laureate in Physics, said that he continued research, investigation, and study even after earning his PhD, which helped him develop the capacity to achieve the Nobel Prize.
Education Minister Mahabir Pun’s Remarks
Education, Science and Technology Minister and University Co-Chancellor Mahabir Pun said that the world ahead will ask individuals not “Which degree do you have?” but “What can you do?”
He emphasized that knowledge and skills should be applied toward social change.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Deepak Aryal’s Statement
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Deepak Aryal stated that convocation marks the beginning of students’ bright future.
He expressed the view that students should implement the theoretical knowledge they have learned in practice.
