FY 2082/83 Budget and Key Updates
The FY 2082/83 (AD 2025/26) budget has ensured some important financial provisions for the Armed Police Force:
Dearness allowance increase
This year’s budget has revised the dearness allowance, which had remained unchanged for a long time, raising it to NPR 5,000 per month. All ranks receive this benefit equally.
Basic pay scale
The basic pay scale increased in BS 2079 has been kept unchanged. However, due to annual grade increments, the salary of existing staff shows an increase compared to last year.
Border security allowance
For personnel deployed at border outposts (BOP), ration and daily allowances have been increased by a certain percentage based on geographic remoteness.
How the APF Salary Structure Is Built
To understand APF salary, it is necessary to understand these four pillars:
-
Basic salary - The initial figure fixed at the time of appointment.
-
Grade - The additional pay after completing one year of service. It is calculated as (grade count × grade rate).
-
Allowances - This includes dearness allowance, ration allowance, uniform allowance, and risk allowance.
-
Deductions - Amounts deposited into funds for future security and amounts deducted as tax.
Terminology support
Gross Salary (total salary): Amount including all allowances.
Net Salary (take-home): Amount received after deductions.

Allowances and Facilities
For APF personnel, basic salary is only the base. Actual income increases through allowances.
A) Dearness allowance
The FY 2082/83 budget has set this at NPR 5,000 per month. This is the same for all levels.
B) Ration allowance
The amount depends on the market price of the district where the employee is posted.
Accessible districts (e.g., Kathmandu)
Up to around NPR 6,500.
Remote/Himalayan districts
From NPR 15,000 to NPR 20,000.
C) Uniform allowance
A lump sum of NPR 10,000 to NPR 15,000 once a year (as per government decision) for uniforms required for security duty.
D) Risk and special duty allowances
Border security (BOP) allowance
Personnel deployed at border posts may receive an additional allowance as a certain percentage of basic salary (10% to 25%), based on performance.
Disaster management allowance
Those trained for disaster management and deployed in such duties receive a special risk allowance.
Salary Deductions
The following amounts are mandatorily deducted from an employee’s total salary:
-
Employees Provident Fund (EPF) - 10% of basic salary.
-
Pension fund - For those appointed after 2076, 6% of basic salary.
-
Insurance and welfare fund - NPR 500 to NPR 1,000 depending on post.
