APF Nepal Vacancy and Fulfillment Process

For those who want to enter the Armed Police Force, Nepal (APF Nepal - Sashastra Prahari Bal Nepal), the organization opens new recruitment as per its annual work schedule. This process is fully transparent, merit-based, and conducted under the direct supervision of the Public Service Commission.

Based on recent trends, APF’s recruitment process is becoming more technical and more systematically managed compared to other security agencies. Full recruitment details are presented below.

Current vacancy trends

The Armed Police Force generally announces a large number of vacancies around the middle or end of the fiscal year (Poush/Magh or Shrawan/Bhadau). Recruitment is mainly conducted through open competition at the following levels:

1. APF Inspector: Officer level (Gazetted 3rd Class)

2. APF Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI): Junior officer level (Non-Gazetted 2nd Class)

3. APF Jawan: Basic level (Non-Gazetted 4th Class)

4. APF Followers: Various trades (cook, hair cutter, cleaner, sweeper, etc.)

Minimum eligibility criteria

Inspector

• Age limit: Completed 21 years and not exceeded 25 years

• Education: Bachelor’s passed

• Physical standards:

  • Height: 5'2" (Male), 5'0" (Female)

  • Chest: 31"–33" (Male)

ASI

• Age limit: Completed 18 years and not exceeded 23 years

• Education: +2 or equivalent passed

• Physical standards:

  • Height: 5'2" (Male), 5'0" (Female)

  • Weight: 50 kg (Male), 42 kg (Female)

Jawan

• Age limit: Completed 18 years and not exceeded 22 years

• Education: Class 8 passed

• Physical standards:

  • Height: 5'2" (Male), 5'0" (Female)

  • Eyes: Not weaker than ±2

Followers

• Age limit: Completed 18 years and not exceeded 25 years

• Education: Able to read and write generally

• Physical standards:

  • Height: 5'0" (Male), 4'10" (Female)

Selection process steps

The recruitment process is carried forward step-by-step using a filtering method. Only after passing one stage can a candidate participate in the next stage.

Step 1: Application registration and initial medical test

• The candidate must fill the form online or by appearing at the designated office.

• At the time of submitting the form, height, weight, and the general condition of hands and legs are checked.

Step 2: Physical endurance test

This stage is the most important filter. It includes five events:

• 300-meter run: Must be completed within a short time.

• Long jump: Must cross the specified distance.

• High jump: Must cross the specified height.

• Sit-ups and push-ups: Physical strength test.

• 2-mile (3.2 km) run: The most difficult event; it checks the candidate’s stamina.

Step 3: Detailed medical check-up

For those who pass the physical test, specialist doctors conduct tests for blood, urine, chest X-ray, blood pressure, teeth, and colour blindness.

Step 4: Written examination

This stage is conducted by the Public Service Commission, which ensures fairness in the examination.

Inspector

• General knowledge, intellectual test, English, Nepali, law, constitution, and service-related questions.

ASI/Jawan

• Nepali, English, mathematics, and service-related knowledge.

Step 5: Special medical

Before the interview, re-testing is conducted for infectious diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis B.

Step 6: Interview

In the final stage, an oral interview is held, where the candidate’s personality, logical ability, and attitude toward service are assessed.

Inclusion policy

As per Nepal’s Constitution, APF follows the inclusion principle. In addition to open competition, seat reservation is provided for women, Indigenous/Janajati, Madhesi, Dalit, backward regions, and martyr police families.
