Dolma Advisors for Head of Environmental, Social, Governance and Impact (ESG and Impact): Dolma Advisors Pvt. Ltd. (DAPL) provides advisory and management services to Dolma Fund Management. whose funds (DIE I and DIE II) invest in the private sector in Nepal. DIF I and DIF II portrait: includes renewable energy projects (hydropower and solar), healthcare, and technology companies.

Head of ESG and Impact is an executive opportunity at Dolma Advisors Pvt. Ltd. responsible for sustainable value creation and risk management in Dolma Impact Fund I and Dolma Impact Fund II (DIF I and DIF II) portfolio companies, across renewable energy, healthcare and technology sectors like e-commerce, internet service provider, artificial intelligence and food delivery companies. The successful candidate will manage a team of experts (the E&S and impact team) and be responsible for Environmental and Social (E&S) risk management following the Environmental and Social Performance Standards framework of the International Finance Corporation and other international standards (see Experience and Qualifications); sustainable value creation plans (VCP) for each portfolio company; execution and monitoring of VCPs; impact planning, management, measurement and reporting; and management of technical assistance funds, projects and external consultants. This position serves as the principle point of contact on E&S risks and impact management and measurement for the DIF E&S Sub-committees comprised of E&S analysts representing Development Finance Institutions invested in DIF I and II as well as other stakeholders like portfolio companies, media, and management of DAPL.

DAPL provides advisory and management services to Dolma Fund Management, whose funds (DIF I and DIF II) invest in the private sector in Nepal. DIF I and DIF II portfolio includes renewable energy projects (hydropower and solar), healthcare, and technology companies. This position will report to the Managing Director. The E&S and Impact team work as a cross-functional team alongside the investment team to enhance E&S management and sustainable value creation.

Roles and Responsibilities:

This role covers the following areas.

Environmental and Social management:

  • Manage overall E&S management system (ESMS) and E&S mandate of DIF I and DIF II in coordination with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage E&S assessments and authorise due diligence studies of new investment proposals for DIF’s consideration, including the identification of potential negative environmental and social impacts, risks and issues along with labour rights, human right risks and adverse impact and gender based violence and harassment (GBV) and sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment (SEAH), climate mitigation and management of physical risks linked with climte change,  to develop recommendations, mitigation measures and action plans.
  • Prepare Terms of Reference (TOR) for the selection of external consultants to conduct due diligence assignments and post-investment monitoring and guidance.
  • Lead portfolio companies and portfolio monitoring and reporting mechanism and implementation of E&S action plans.
  • Ensure that appropriate environmental and social representations and covenants are incorporated in transaction documents.
  • Work with portfolio companies to define steps required to comply with the applicable international E&S standards (including the IFC’s E&S Performance Standards and the World Bank Group’s Environmental Health and Safety Guidelines).
  • Provide technical guidance to portfolio companies on the preparation of necessary documentation and implementation of E&S action plans.
  • Work closely with the investment team to integrate E&S objectives across the entire investment cycle.
  • Prepare DIF’s annual E&S performance reports.

Project Management Office

  • Manage planning and execution of sustainable value creation projects at portfolio companies.
  • Manage Technical Assistance and Capacity Development Programme with investors for Dolma and portfolio companies.
  • Manage internal and external expert resources for project implementation.

Impact Management and Measurement

  • Oversee Dolma’s impact management and measurement system, including development and implementation of Dolma’s impact policy/strategy and objectives.
  • Manage impact assessment of new investment proposals for DIF's consideration, including assessment of a) positive impact potential and alignment with DIF's impact policy/strategy and objectives, and b) material risks of intended impact not materializing.
  • For portfolio companies, establish baseline metrics and regular monitoring and reporting over time, and work with portfolio companies to support management and measurement of impact performance.
  • Generate Impact Reports for the Funds.
  • Manage Gender and Inclusion strategies for the Funds to meet positive gender aspects such as gender empowerment and 2x challenge.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in relevant academic fields such as social science, environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental compliance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years relevant work experience, especially in environmental protection, environmental and social consultancy, international development institutions, NGO environmental programmes, and private sector environmental and social management.
  • Demonstrated applied experience in managing E&S risks benchmarked against international E&S standards (e.g. IFC Performance Standards, World Bank Group EHS Guidelines, UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGP), ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, ILO Basic Terms and Conditions of Employment).
  • Experience of managing risk and E&S in renewable energy (hydropower, solar), healthcare and technology sectors including construction, operational and supply chain aspects is a plus.
  • Understand occupational health and safety risks management, as well as internationally recognized worker rights (e.g. ILO Core Labor Standards).
  • Understanding and practical experience in stakeholder and community engagement, grievance mechanisms, resettlement action plans and/or livelihood restoration plans
  • Project management experience - managing a team of experts and proficiency in the use of collaborative project management software (e.g. MS Project).
  • Experience in managing technical assistance programmes.
  • Experience in impact analysis, management, measurement, and reporting.
  • Experience in negotiating and raising awareness of clients.
  • Experience in E&S risk identification, mitigation, monitoring and reporting.
  • A desire to bring sustainable, best-practice business processes to Nepal.
  • English and Nepali fluency, both verbal and written.
