About B&B Medical Institute

B&B Medical Institute was established in 2005 AD as a nursing education institution managed under B&B Hospital. The relationship with the hospital is central to the institute's academic setting because nursing students require both theoretical preparation and exposure to healthcare practice.

B and B Hospital and B and B Medical Institute

The institute started its post-basic bachelor nursing program in 2005 AD for students who had already completed PCL Nursing. In 2013 AD, BMI added the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program for students entering nursing education from a 10+2 science background with Biology.

This combination gives the institute nursing programs designed for different educational entry points: certificate-level nursing, direct-entry bachelor nursing, and post-basic bachelor study for nurses continuing their academic education.

Academic Affiliation and Nursing Education

BMI's bachelor-level nursing programs are connected with Purbanchal University. The university's BSN and Post-Basic Bachelor of Nursing Science curricula fall under its Faculty of Medical and Allied Sciences.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing curriculum is structured as a four-year program. The Post-Basic Bachelor of Nursing Science curriculum is structured over three years.

PCL Nursing follows the CTEVT curriculum. The CTEVT Proficiency Certificate Level in Nursing curriculum is a three-academic-year program based on a yearly system and combines theoretical and practical nursing education.

The first year combines health sciences with nursing subjects including Medical-Surgical Nursing-I, Nursing Concept and Theories, Pediatric Nursing and Medical Sociology/Anthropology. Professional English is also included.

PCL Nursing

PCL Nursing provides certificate-level preparation for nursing practice through the CTEVT framework. The curriculum runs for three academic years on a yearly system.

The first year concentrates on nursing fundamentals, community health and basic sciences. The second year moves into medical-surgical nursing, geriatric nursing, behavioral science and mental health nursing, community health and social studies.

Third-year study covers midwifery, gynecological nursing, child health nursing, and leadership and management. Theory is combined with clinical and practical components across the curriculum.

Nursing Admission and MEC Framework

Bachelor-level medical and nursing education admission is based on MECEE-BL and follows the prevailing rules of the Medical Education Commission (MEC), Nepal.

The applicable framework covers admission procedures, rules and guidelines, code of conduct, scholarship provisions, seat allocation, fee structure and related admission requirements. Seats, fees, scholarships and examination guidelines can be revised through MEC decisions and the official MEC calendar.

This makes admission-cycle information especially important for applicants, since seat distribution, scholarship arrangements, fees and examination schedules can change between admission periods.

Professional Licensing after Graduation

Completing an academic nursing program and entering professional practice are separate stages. After completing the respective course, graduates must pass the applicable professional council licensing examination before entering the profession.

For nursing graduates, the relevant professional body is the Nepal Nursing Council. Licensing requirements operate alongside the academic requirements of the university, CTEVT and the applicable medical education admission framework.

Clinical Exposure through B&B Hospital

One of BMI's defining institutional features is its management connection with B&B Hospital. Students have access to the hospital setting for clinical exposure, connecting nursing education with patient-care environments.

B&B Hospital has clinical departments covering a broad range of medical and surgical areas, including:

  • Orthopedic Surgery, General Surgery, Urology, General Medicine, Neuroscience, Gynaecology/Obstetrics, Paediatrics and Plastic Surgery

  • Cardiology, ENT, Oncology, Cleft & Craniomaxillofacial Surgery, Psychiatry, Dermatology and Venereology, and Nephrology

  • Cardio-Thoracic & Vascular Surgery, Rheumatology, Anesthesiology and Ophthalmology

  • Nutrition & Dietetics and Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery

For nursing students, this hospital connection provides a clinical setting alongside the academic components of their programs.

Campus Setting and Student Life

BMI is located at Gwarko 14 in Lalitpur, opposite B & B Hospital. The location places the nursing institute and its associated hospital close to one another.

Hostel facilities are available for students. The institute also includes extracurricular activities as part of student life outside regular academic and clinical work.

The campus setting is focused on nursing education rather than a broad multi-faculty college model, with its programs centered on different stages of nursing preparation and progression.

Vision, Mission and Academic Goals

BMI's institutional direction centers on preparing technically competent and socially responsible health personnel while contributing to healthcare service in Nepal.

Its mission connects nursing education with professional competence, research, technology, healthcare service, and the health needs of individuals, families and communities. It also places attention on preparing healthcare professionals who can respond to changes in nursing practice and service environments.

Its stated academic goals include:

  • providing nursing education with a clear professional focus;

  • preparing graduates with strong academic foundations;

  • transferring nursing knowledge, practical skills and professional attitudes to new generations of students;

  • conducting research studies; and

  • maintaining a connection between nursing education and developments in technology and healthcare practice.

These goals frame education, clinical preparation, research and professional development as connected parts of nursing training.
