The BCA starts with computing fundamentals and gradually moves into programming, software development, databases, networking and application-oriented subjects.
First-semester study includes Computer Fundamental and Office Automation, Foundation Course in Computing English-I, Math-I, Programming in C and Digital Logic. The second semester adds Technical English, Math-II, C++ Programming and Operating System along with a course connecting social engagement and technology.
The second year moves further into technical subjects. Students study Data Structures and Algorithm, Microprocessor and Assembly Language, Computer Oriented Numerical Methods, Data Communication and Computer Networking, Java Programming, Database Management System, Computer Architecture, System Analysis and Design and Discrete Structure. Project-I is also included during this stage.
By the third year, students work with Web Designing, .Net Technology, MIS and E-commerce, Cyber Law and Computer Ethics, Software Engineering, Advance Java Programming and Computer Graphic. Project-II adds another practical component.
The final year includes Programming in Python, internship work, electives, Mobile Programming and Project-III.
The 128-credit program is divided across computing, language, mathematics, social science, management and practical components.
| Academic Component | Credit Hours |
|---|---|
| Computer Application | 73 |
| Language Courses | 9 |
| Mathematics and Statistics | 9 |
| Social Sciences and Management | 12 |
| Electives | 12 |
| Projects | 10 |
| Internship | 3 |
| Total | 128 |
This combination gives the BCA a strong computing base while retaining communication, mathematics and management-related study.
Project work is distributed across different stages of the degree rather than being limited to the final semester. Project-I carries 2 credits, Project-II carries another 2 credits, and Project-III carries 6 credits, giving a total of 10 project credits.
An internship worth 3 credit hours is included in the seventh semester. The presence of projects and internship study gives students opportunities to work beyond regular theory courses and apply computing knowledge to assigned tasks.
Several technical subjects also combine theory with practical work. Database Management System, for example, covers database design, relational models, SQL, normalization, database security and transaction management.
Students can study elective subjects during the later part of the BCA. The available areas include:
These electives allow students to study selected areas beyond the common BCA subjects.
Eligibility: Students who have passed +2, Intermediate, PCL or an equivalent qualification from any stream can apply for the BCA.
Applicants must have:
Admission is based on marks obtained in the entrance examination.
The any-stream eligibility distinguishes BCA from programs that require a science background at the higher-secondary level. Students should still be prepared for mathematics, programming and technical coursework throughout the degree.
The BCA covers several areas used in computer application and software-related study. Major areas include:
Students interested in a computing degree with a different academic structure can also review the BSc CSIT at Mount Everest International College.
BCA students at Mount Everest International College have access to computer laboratories, high-speed internet, library facilities and device-equipped classrooms. These facilities support programming, database, networking and other computer-related coursework.
The college also has transportation facilities, separate hostels for boys and girls, career counseling, mentorship, workshops, internship assistance and extracurricular activities. Technology-related student activities include coding clubs, tech communities, hackathons and innovation events.
The BCA develops knowledge relevant to software, web, systems, networking and database work. Possible entry-level areas include software programming, web development, system and network administration, database-related work and computer operations.
The degree can also provide a base for postgraduate study. Further-study options associated with the program include MCA, MBA, Master’s Degree in Information Management and Master’s in Computer Management.
Career direction depends on the student's technical ability, project work, practical experience and further specialization rather than the degree title alone.
