Duration and academic structure

Hematology and blood banking

The hematology and blood-banking component includes laboratory procedures associated with blood-cell counts, hemoglobin, coagulation tests, blood grouping, Rh typing, cross-matching, Coombs tests, red-cell indices, and selected hemoparasite investigations.

Biochemistry, histopathology and cytopathology

Students also practice laboratory procedures connected with biochemical investigations and the preparation and processing of histopathological and cytopathological specimens.

The biochemistry component includes preparation of reagents and investigations related to glucose, urea, creatinine, uric acid, proteins, lipid profile, bilirubin, liver enzymes, electrolytes, and calcium.

Histopathology and cytopathology practice covers microscopy, fixation, specimen handling, tissue processing, section cutting, preparation of stains and reagents, staining procedures, cytological smear preparation, and mounting of stained specimens or sections.
