The Post-Basic Bachelor of Nursing Science (PBNS) at Kantipur Academy of Health Science is a three-year nursing degree affiliated with Purbanchal University. The revised Purbanchal University curriculum uses the official title Post-Basic Bachelor of Nursing Science (PBNS). Program focus
PBNS builds on prior nursing education and professional experience. The curriculum develops further competence in clinical nursing, community health, nursing education, management, research, and specialized nursing practice.
Purbanchal University structured the program around four major nursing areas: Midwifery, Community Health Nursing, Medical-Surgical Nursing, and Psychiatric Nursing. Students select a major subject during the later stage of the program, alongside management, research, oncology nursing, and clinical practice.
The curriculum also integrates subjects such as epidemiology, geriatric nursing, educational science, applied computer technology, leadership, and biostatistics, giving students exposure to responsibilities beyond bedside nursing.
Eligibility and admission
Eligibility: Applicants must have passed PCL Nursing from a recognized institution. The Purbanchal University curriculum also specifies at least one year of work experience in a recognized health institution after obtaining a Nepal Nursing Council license.
Admission to nursing education follows the prevailing Medical Education Commission framework. Applicants are required to follow the applicable MECEE-BL process and the current rules concerning eligibility, merit, admission procedures, scholarships, seat allocation, fees, and the official admission calendar determined by the Medical Education Commission (MEC).
Seat numbers, fees, scholarships, and admission arrangements can change between academic years according to MEC decisions.

Third-year practical work includes management practicum, clinical practicum, research activities, and practice related to the selected major subject. Research work covers proposal preparation, conducting research, and report writing.
Teaching and assessment
The curriculum uses interactive lectures, group discussion, demonstrations, observation, assignments, presentations, practical assignments, problem-based learning, and self-directed learning approaches.
Theory assessment consists of 20% internal assessment and 80% final examination. Practical assessment consists primarily of internal evaluation, with the major elective subject carrying a final practical examination component.
At KAHS, nursing education is supported by laboratories, internet-connected computer facilities, an e-library, continuous academic assessment, and practical exposure. The academy is associated with Kantipur Hospital Pvt. Ltd., a 100-bed hospital at Subidhanagar, Tinkune, providing a healthcare setting alongside the institution's academic environment.
Professional preparation
The PBNS curriculum prepares nurses for responsibilities connected with clinical nursing, community health, nursing education, management, research, and their selected nursing specialty. The program's professional areas include hospital, community, maternal health, mental health, and medical-surgical nursing settings.
Graduates must also meet the applicable professional licensing requirements of the Nepal Nursing Council before entering professional practice under the prevailing regulatory provisions.
