Program focus

The BSc Nursing curriculum prepares students for nursing practice across hospital, community, maternal health, educational, managerial, and research settings. Nursing process, evidence-informed problem solving, communication, health promotion, disease prevention, curative care, rehabilitation, and community participation are integrated into the program.

The curriculum gives particular attention to family and reproductive health, midwifery, hospital nursing, and community health nursing. It also develops knowledge and practical skills related to leadership, teaching, research, and nursing management.

Eligibility and admission

Eligibility: Candidates must have completed Intermediate Science, 10+2, or A Level with Biology and must meet an equivalent requirement of C+ or 50% aggregate. Candidates must also be physically and mentally fit and have completed 17 years of age.
Admission to nursing education is based on MECEE-BL and follows the prevailing rules, scholarship provisions, seat-allocation system, fee structure, admission procedures, and academic calendar determined by the Medical Education Commission (MEC). Seats, fees, scholarships, and related admission provisions may change between academic years.

BSc Nursing curriculum

First year

The first year establishes the scientific and nursing foundations required for later clinical study. Subjects include:

  • Anatomy and Physiology

  • Biochemistry

  • Microbiology/Parasitology

  • Pathophysiology

  • Pharmacology

  • Nutrition and Dietetics

  • Foundation of Nursing

  • Community Health Nursing-I

Second year

Second-year study moves further into clinical nursing, mental health, community health, and care across different stages of life. The subjects are:

Advanced Medical-Surgical Nursing includes areas such as cardiac, pulmonary, renal, neurology, and oncology nursing.

Teaching and clinical learning

Teaching methods include lectures, discussions, group discussions, demonstrations, self-directed learning, problem-based learning, observation, skill-lab simulation, field and clinical practice, written assignments, project work, and group presentations.

Clinical and practical education forms a substantial part of the degree. Students work with nursing procedures, patient care planning, case studies, client teaching, documentation, clinical presentations, and other practical activities relevant to individual subjects.

KAHS supports this practical orientation through its connection with Kantipur Hospital Pvt. Ltd., a 100-bed private hospital at Subidhanagar, Tinkune. The hospital provides services including emergency care, pathology, X-ray, gynecology, surgery, dialysis, ICU, ECG, ECHO, and other clinical services.

Assessment system

Theory subjects use:

  • Internal assessment: 20% of total marks

  • Final assessment: 80% of total marks

Final written examinations may include multiple-choice questions, problem-based questions, long-answer questions, and short-answer questions.

Practical evaluation is divided equally:

  • Internal evaluation: 50%

  • Final evaluation: 50%

Internal practical assessment may include project work, performance evaluation, case studies and presentations, client teaching, student teaching, report writing, procedure logbooks, procedure evaluation, drug records, and nursing care plans.

Final practical assessment includes procedure or patient-care evaluation along with OSPE, OSCE, or simulation and viva components.

Nursing competencies developed through the program

Across four years, the curriculum develops competence in nursing care, communication, health promotion, community health, maternal and child health, midwifery, epidemiology, clinical decision-making, teaching, leadership, research, and management.

Students are also expected to apply nursing theories and the nursing process in caring for individuals, families, groups, and communities while considering social, cultural, economic, and health-related factors affecting clients.

Professional licensing

After completing the BSc Nursing program, graduates must meet the applicable professional licensing requirements of the Nepal Nursing Council before entering nursing practice.
