What Is Geomatics Engineering?

Geomatics is a multidisciplinary engineering field concerned with spatial and geographically referenced data. It uses terrestrial, airborne, marine, and satellite-based methods for acquiring spatial information and applies technical processes to store, integrate, model, analyze, retrieve, display, and distribute that information.

At KUSoE, the program covers both measurement-oriented engineering and digital spatial-information technologies. Students therefore encounter traditional surveying and geodesy alongside GIS, remote sensing, spatial databases, Web GIS, and spatial data infrastructure.

The program began at KUSoE in 2007 in collaboration with the Land Management Training Center, adding Geomatics Engineering to the School's undergraduate engineering structure.

The early semesters establish a foundation in mathematics, physical sciences, computing, engineering drawing, environmental engineering, and engineering project work.
