BBA Finance program focus

BBA Finance combines general business education with focused study in financial activities. Its academic scope includes corporate financial management, banking, insurance, investment, and capital markets. The program also develops knowledge of management and business functions alongside analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technology-related skills.

The curriculum is divided into several academic components:

  • foundation courses

  • management core courses

  • concentration courses

  • elective courses

  • project work and internship

  • practicum courses

Students select five concentration courses from two concentration areas offered by the school or college. Two elective courses are also included in the curriculum.

What students study

The first four semesters establish the business, quantitative, communication, and finance base of the degree.

Semester I includes English, Basic Mathematics, IT for Business, Behavioral Science, Principles of Management, and Software Skills Practicum. Semester II covers Business Communication, Business Mathematics, Introduction to Microeconomics, Fundamentals of Organizational Behavior, Financial Accounting, and Soft Skills Practicum.

Semester III introduces Business Statistics, Macroeconomics, Cost and Management Accounting, Essentials of Finance, Principles of Marketing, and Digital Marketing Practicum. Semester IV includes Data Analysis and Modeling, Business Research Methods, Human Resource Management, Management Information System, Corporate Finance, and Academic Writing.

The broader curriculum also incorporates financial law, concentration study, electives, project work, and internship as students progress through the program.

Teaching, project work, and internship

BBA Finance uses lectures alongside case studies, group discussions, project assignments, field visits, class presentations, and other classroom activities. Students are expected to participate in discussions and individual presentations as part of their academic work.

Project work involves independent fieldwork, empirical analysis, and report preparation. The program also requires an internship approved by the college. The internship runs for six to eight weeks and is intended to connect academic concepts with work-based exposure.

Attendance and evaluation

Students are required to maintain at least 80 percent attendance in classes actually held.

For courses assessed through internal and semester-end examinations, each component carries 50 percent of the total evaluation. Students must obtain at least 45 percent in internal and external evaluations independently. A student who does not meet the internal requirement receives NOT QUALIFIED (NQ) status for that course and cannot appear in its semester-end examination.

Pokhara University follows a four-point letter grading system for the program. Graduation requires completion of all prescribed courses, project work, and internship, at least a D grade in each course, a Pass grade in the internship, and a minimum CGPA of 2.0.
