The Diploma in Civil Engineering is a three-year technical education program offered by Sahid Smriti Awasiya Secondary School, which is part of the Nepalese Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT).
With 48 seats, including four designated scholarships, the course is intended for students who have passed the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) and wish to develop applied engineering skills relevant to the construction and infrastructure sectors.
It focuses on practical learning, field application, and technical problem-solving aligned with national engineering standards.
The program follows the CTEVT-prescribed curriculum and is structured over six semesters. Key subjects include:
Engineering Mechanics
Building Materials and Construction
Surveying I & II
Engineering Drawing and Estimating
Hydraulics and Irrigation
Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering
Structural Analysis and Design
Transportation Engineering
Students engage in classroom-based theory, laboratory work, practical field visits, and a final project in the last semester to apply what they have learned.
This program is designed with the following objectives:
To provide technical knowledge and field practices in civil construction and structural work.
To prepare skilled personnel to support infrastructure development in urban and rural settings.
Promote safe, efficient, quality construction practices in public and private projects.
To enable students to participate in the planning, supervising, and maintaining of civil engineering works.
The diploma provides opportunities to work in infrastructure-related fields such as road construction, irrigation, water supply, and building development. Graduates may serve in:
Government construction departments
Engineering consultancy firms
Local municipalities and development offices
NGOs working in infrastructure
Construction companies and private contractors
The qualification is also suitable for pursuing further education in Bachelor-level engineering programs in Nepal or abroad.
Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:
Prepare and interpret engineering drawings, site layouts, and estimates.
Operated surveying equipment and managed data collection on construction sites.
Apply standard construction techniques for building, road, and hydraulic structures.
Support project planning and field supervision under senior engineers.
Communicate technical information clearly in project documentation.
Practical learning is reinforced through technical workshops and project-based modules covering:
AutoCAD for drafting and design
Fieldwork on topographical and leveling surveys
Construction site supervision techniques
Basic quantity surveying and cost estimation
Material testing and quality control
These modules help learners gain experience with tools, equipment, and procedures commonly used in civil engineering.
The teaching approach combines instructor-led theory, hands-on training, individual assignments, and group activities. Teachers focus on engaging students through field observations, lab experiments, technical drawings, and real project simulations. In accordance with CTEVT guidelines, regular internal assessments and a final evaluation are conducted.
Minimum Qualification: SEE passed with GPA requirements as per CTEVT norms.
Entrance Exam: Students must pass the CTEVT entrance exam to be eligible for enrollment.
Seat Allocation: Based on entrance ranking and reservation categories.
Graduates of this program can work as:
Junior Civil Technicians
Assistant Site Supervisors
Survey Technicians
CAD Operators
Quantity Estimators
They can also seek employment in municipal infrastructure departments, housing projects, water and sanitation schemes, or continue with higher technical education.
Out of the total 48 seats, 4 scholarships are allocated through CTEVT’s quota system for disadvantaged and underrepresented groups. Students must apply through the official process and meet eligibility requirements for scholarship consideration.
