7th Ice Climbing Level-One Training Begins in Humde
The Nepal Tourism Board, in collaboration with the Nepal Mountain Instructors Association (NMIA), has started the seventh Ice Climbing Level-One training in Humde, Manang.
The training will run from 2082 Magh 13 to 2082 Magh 22 and focuses on technical and practical exercises conducted in high-Himalayan environments.
Program Launch
The program began with a “soft opening” in Kathmandu on Magh 9.
Participants were provided orientation on theoretical classes and practical components and were prepared for field-based training in high-Himalayan areas.
Objectives
The training aims to:
Strengthen technical skills related to ice climbing
Promote international safety standards
Expand employment opportunities in the mountaineering sector
The Board stated that the program aligns with Nepal’s long-term reminder to provide world-class, safe, and professional mountaineering services from the Himalayas.
It was also stated that Nepali climbers and guides are widely regarded as among the best in the world.
Participants and Trainers
Total participants: 36
Trainers: 11 experienced instructors
Curriculum and Practical Components
The curriculum includes:
Use of essential equipment such as ice axe, crampons, harness, helmet, carabiners, belay device, slings, and ropes
Rope fixing
Anchor building
Safety and protection systems
Rescue procedures
Practical exercises required for high-Himalayan and technical mountaineering
Field Training Observation
During a visit to observe the field-based training in Humde, the Board’s Senior Director Hikmat Singh Ayer and Manager Bimal Kandel stated that the shared commitment of the Board and NMIA toward capacity building and professional development in the mountaineering sector will bring positive results.
Certification
Participants who successfully complete the training will receive an internationally recognized certificate. It is expected that this will increase their professional credibility and employment opportunities in Nepal and the international mountaineering sector.
