TU Vice-Chancellor Cup Sports Starts in Kathmandu

TU Vice-Chancellor Cup Sports Tournament 2082 Begins

14 Magh 2082, Kathmandu. The Tribhuvan University (TU) Vice-Chancellor Cup Sports Tournament 2082 is starting today in Kathmandu.

The TU Vice-Chancellor Cup will feature competition in five sports: volleyball, badminton, athletics, table tennis, and basketball.

Venues for Each Sport

Director of the Student Welfare and Sports Directorate, Dr. Dipendra Parajuli, stated that events will be held at the following venues:

  • Athletics: Dasharath Stadium

  • Basketball: Dasharath Stadium Covered Hall

  • Table Tennis: Lainchaur

  • Volleyball: Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Center

  • Badminton: Multi-purpose Covered Hall, Dallu Awas

Table tennis will be held at the covered hall in Lainchaur, and badminton will be played at the multi-purpose covered hall in Dallu Awas.

Athletics will take place at Dasharath Stadium, while basketball (3×3) will be played at the National Sports Council’s covered hall located at Dasharath Stadium. The volleyball tournament will be held at the Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Center, Jawalakhel.

Tournament Organizer and Dates

The sports tournament is being organized by the Student Welfare and Sports Directorate (SWSD) under TU’s Office of the Dean of Students. It will run from Magh 14 to Magh 18.

Competition Formats and Categories

Volleyball

  • Competition will be held in both men’s and women’s categories.

  • Each team will have 10 players.

Basketball

  • Competition will be held in both women’s and men’s categories.

  • The game will be played in a 3×3 format.

Badminton

  • Both women’s and men’s categories will compete.

  • Singles and doubles events will be held.

Athletics

Track events:

  • 100 meters

  • 200 meters

  • 400 meters

  • 800 meters

Field events:

  • Long jump

  • Shot put

Team composition:

  • 4 women and 4 men per team will participate in athletics.

Participation rule:

Organizers stated that, in athletics, one athlete may take part in either:

  • Two track events and one field event, or

  • Two field events and one track event.

Participation Scale

Organizers stated that all 64 constituent campuses of Tribhuvan University will participate in the tournament, with direct involvement of:

  • More than 850 athletes

  • More than 200 coaches/team managers

  • More than 150 referees, technical officials, and sports association representatives

Expected Outcomes

Organizers believe the tournament will promote a sports culture within Tribhuvan University and make a significant contribution to students’ discipline, leadership capacity, competitive spirit, and overall personality development.

Dr. Dipendra Parajuli stated that the Vice-Chancellor Cup is being organized to identify, develop, and promote sports talent at the university level.

Selection for Further Training and Events

Organizers stated that talented student-athletes with outstanding performances across different sports will be selected and a four-day closed training program will be conducted.

Parajuli further informed that athletes selected through the closed training will participate on behalf of Tribhuvan University in the Third University-Level National Sports Tournament 2082, which will be held in Kathmandu on Magh 22–23.

Organizers also stated that selected athletes will have opportunities to represent Tribhuvan University in other national and international competitions.
