Book Chinese Perspective Launched in Kathmandu
The book “Chiniya Drishtikon” (Chinese Perspective), written by writer and journalist Chetanath Acharya, has been launched in the capital.
At a programme organised on Friday at the Nepal Academy, Speaker Devraj Ghimire, former Ambassador of Nepal to China Lilamani Paudel, professor, legal expert and writer Dr. Yubaraj Sangraula, and author Acharya jointly launched the book.
Speaker Ghimire: Book Helps Understand China and Its Development
Speaker Ghimire said that understanding China means understanding a country with a historic relationship with Nepal. He stated, “This book has begun the process of understanding what the world should learn from China’s development, and what the realities are behind the colours, comments, criticisms and opposition that are spreading about it.”
Speaker Ghimire said that author Acharya has been providing detailed information about China’s culture, geography, politics, economy and tourism through his “Beijing Diary”. He noted that the book will make it easier to understand what kinds of development China has achieved, how that development will affect the world, especially the Global South, and how the Global North is viewing it.
Former Ambassador Paudel: Based on Official Chinese Documents
Former Ambassador Paudel said that the book includes translations of China’s official documents. He mentioned that the book will be helpful for those who want to understand the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Commenting on the book, he said, “There is less emotional translation and more literal translation. The language is also complex.”
Paudel also said that, among the eight books written by author Acharya, five have attempted to introduce readers to China and the Chinese context.
Professor Sangraula: Informative and Analytical Work
Professor Sangraula said that the book is both informative and analytical. He stated, “There is a great deal of information on Chinese development, and this book can be helpful for understanding Chinese democracy.”
Author Acharya’s Experience and Focus on China
Author Acharya, who has been active in journalism for 28 years, said that he prepared the book to make it easier to understand China. For the past 12 years, he has been working as a foreign expert with the Nepali Service of the China Media Group (CMG) based in Beijing.
While living in China, Acharya has been writing about that country’s culture, lifestyle, geography, tourism, politics and society. He says that China’s development has had a positive impact on the world. So far, eight books by Acharya have been published.
The book has been brought out by Makalu Group and Company.
