Gai Jatra Festival

Gai Jatra festival is being celebrated today on the day of Bhadau Krishna Pratipada, wishing good luck to the relatives who passed away this year. Especially in the Newar community, there is a tradition of celebrating Gaijatra with much reverence in the memory of the deceased.

It is mentioned in history that this procession was started to console Rani Bhuvanalakshmi who was mourning the demise of Chakravartendra Malla, the son of the then King Pratap Malla.

Gaijatra is celebrated on this day even in different parts of the country where Newari settlements have been developed for several years. There is also a tradition of giving fruits and Dakshina to the pilgrims in the memory of their ancestors. It is said that the festival was taken as a procession after a long period of satire and satire to express frustration.

According to Bhuvan Shakya, Guthiyar of Dharmachakra Mahavihar in Ombahal, it is not good for this festival to turn into a very sensitive and emotional festival. The competitive demonstration on the day of Gaijatra in Bhaktapur has been stopped to prevent corona infection. It was organized by Bhaktapur Municipality.

According to Tulsinarayan Dandekhya, the main protagonist of Mahakali dance in Bhaktapur, the famous Ghintaghisi dance that takes place here on this day takes place in the middle of a general gathering. The procession will be held in Patan on Tuesday in memory of the deceased.
