Gururaj Ghimire’s Two Books, ‘Buddha, BP and Today’s Leaders’ and ‘The Little People of Lilliput,’ Launched
Two new books by author Gururaj Ghimire—Buddha, BP and Today’s Leaders and The Little People of Lilliput—have been released.
Senior Nepali Congress leaders and the Chief Minister of Bagmati Province jointly launched the books at a programme held in the capital on Tuesday.
Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa, Vice-Presidents Pushpa Bhusal and Bishwo Prakash Sharma, and Bagmati Province Chief Minister Indra Baniya were among those who jointly launched the books.
Speaking at the programme, Congress President Gagan Thapa praised Ghimire, who had already become a prominent figure when Thapa entered politics, for his efforts to guide politics in the right direction through literature alongside his political work.
He said General Secretary Ghimire’s personality is reflected in his ideas and poetry, noting that Ghimire had worked alongside the Nepali Congress through all the difficult and favourable circumstances the party had continuously faced.
Vice-President Pushpa Bhusal said the ideas of BP and the teachings of Buddha remain relevant today and will continue to be relevant in the future. She said the views presented by Ghimire through the book convey a message that the Congress leadership should free itself from fear and work to make the party a Congress for everyone.
Another Vice-President, Bishwo Prakash Sharma, said that literary awareness within a politician can also guide politics in the right direction. He added that BP Koirala’s example alone was sufficient to demonstrate this.
Parliamentary Party leader Bhishma Raj Angdembe wished the books success, noting that they had been published at a time when leaders and political parties had become a persistent source of pain. Although he did not consider himself a literary figure, he said he would now try to read the books.
Reviewing the books, political analyst Shankar Tiwari said the author had presented an in-depth analysis of Gautam Buddha’s compassion, BP Koirala’s democratic socialism, and the responsibilities of today’s political leadership.
On the occasion, Ghimire expressed gratitude to Pushparaj Paudel, founder of Shikha Books Publication, for supporting the publication of his works.
He said that although the present time did not allow people to write openly about their views, poetry provided space to express oneself freely through literary language, satire, and imagery. He added that this had led him to develop a habit of expressing the frustrations of politics through ideas and poetry.
Ghimire said the enthusiastic attendance of everyone had turned the book-launch ceremony into a celebration.
