Kathmandu — Weeklong programs marking the 46th World Food Day (2083 BS) began on Sunday (Asoj 25) with a focus on strengthening calls for food sovereignty and climate justice. The events are being organized in Kathmandu under the coordination of the Agriculture for Food Campaign, featuring various awareness-raising and creative activities.
This year's theme is "Innovate Today, Nourish Tomorrow." The programs focus on the effects of climate-related disasters on agriculture and food systems, farmers' livelihoods, and communities.
According to campaign coordinator Uddhav Adhikari, an "artivism" event, using art to raise public awareness, was held on Sunday. A press conference organized on the same occasion highlighted food sovereignty, climate justice, and the impact of climate change on the agricultural sector.
Other Programs Scheduled During the Weeklong Campaign:
- Monday: A street play will be performed at Shiva-Parvati Dabali in Basantapur, Kathmandu, at 4:00 PM. The performance aims to bring agriculture, the right to food, climate change, and farmers' concerns into public discussion.
- Tuesday (Asoj 27): A program titled "Critical Questions About Food and Farming" will be held at the Department of Agriculture in Harihar Bhawan from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The event will feature discussions, theatrical performances, creative presentations, and exhibitions of posters and artwork.
