Handicraft and Cultural Festival in Patan from 2082 Mangsir 17 to 21

Handicraft and Cultural Festival at Patan Durbar Square

Nepal Handicraft Federation is organizing an art and cultural festival at Patan Durbar Square in Lalitpur from Wednesday, Mangsir 17.

At a press conference held in Kathmandu on Tuesday, the Federation stated that the festival will be held from Mangsir 17 (Wednesday) to Mangsir 21 with the objective of promoting and publicizing handicraft products.

According to Federation President Rabindra Shakya, the festival will feature exhibitions of handicraft products, 60 masks from Nepal and 40 masks from South Korea, ornaments used in the ten deeds according to Buddhist tradition, ethnic costumes and other items. He said the festival has been organized to keep the handicraft sector active in the current transitional situation of the country.

Shakya noted that although the Government of Nepal has decided to purchase local products, this decision has not been implemented in practice, and that imported goods which appear similar to domestic products have created additional difficulties.

He further stated that although the Bagmati Province Government has passed a Handicraft Village Policy, it has been stalled at the level of procedures and regulations, creating further uncertainty for the sector.
