Natikaaji Shrestha’s 101st Birth Anniversary Observed

Location: Kathmandu

Event Date: 2082 Poush 4

The 101st birth anniversary of composer Natikaaji Shrestha, known as the “Sur Shiromani” of Nepali modern music, was observed on Thursday.

A program was organized at his residence in Kutubahal to mark the occasion. During the program, a garland was offered to his photo, and discussions were held on his contributions.

Natikaaji Smriti Samaj Chairperson Shambhujit Banskota said a national-level award should be announced in his name. He said that, at present, the Smriti Samaj itself has been organizing the program each year.

He added that, on the occasion of this year’s birth anniversary, it would have been good if special programs had been organized by the private sector and the state as well.

He also informed that the announcement of the Natikaaji National Music Honor and Award, which is provided every year, has been postponed for some time because 90 days have not yet passed since the death of Natikaaji’s wife, Saraswati Shrestha.

At the program, the following, among others, shared their views about him:

  • Lyricist Rajendra Thapa

  • Pragya Chetan Sapkota

  • Milan Moktan
