Pokhara University Celebrates 29th Anniversary

Pokhara University has entered its 29th year of establishment. Founded on 1st Shrawan 2054 BS under the Pokhara University Act, 2053, the university organized a tree plantation and a long-service recognition event on its central campus to mark the occasion.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bedraj K.C. lit a ceremonial lamp to begin the program. The university honored its teaching and administrative staff who have completed over 25 years of service with medals, certificates, and traditional shawls as a gesture of respect and appreciation.

Staff Honored for Long Service

The following individuals were honored during the event:

  • Registrar Associate Prof. Dr. Ajay Thapa

  • Associate Administrator Govardhan Bhattarai

  • Deputy Administrator Sita Devi Dhakal

  • Senior Assistants Bimal Karki and Purushottam Ranabhat

  • Driver Jhagbahadur Kamar

  • Office Staff Durga Regmi and Jogiram Nepali

Vice-Chancellor’s Reflections

Prof. Dr. K.C. shared that Pokhara University has already established itself as a leading institution in higher education. He emphasized that the university's presence is recognized both nationally and internationally.

He expressed gratitude to past office holders, educators, and community members who contributed to the institution's growth. He also noted that the strategies and plans introduced during the 25th University Assembly are expected to yield meaningful outcomes in the coming years.

Commitments from the Service Commission

Prof. Tirtharaj Aryal, Chairperson of the Pokhara University Service Commission, mentioned that the commission continues to work in line with the university’s guidance and pledged to move forward with focused coordination and long-term planning.

Personal Experiences Shared by Registrar

Registrar Associate Prof. Dr. Ajay Thapa recalled his journey with the university from its early days, saying it was a matter of pride to serve continuously for 25 years.

He mentioned that the university began with only a handful of students and staff but now educates over 35,000 students through 65 affiliated colleges. He credited this progress to the collective efforts of founders, leaders, faculty, staff, and students.

Remarks by Former Registrar and Faculty Members

Former Registrar Prof. Dr. Deepak Bahadur Bhandari highlighted the physical infrastructure improvements made during his tenure and stressed the importance of expanding educational access across the country.

Associate Prof. Dr. Dayaraj Dhakal, Dean of the Faculty of Management, expressed a deep emotional connection to the university, saying he holds great respect and affection for the institution.

Faculty Association Chairperson Associate Prof. Dr. Niranjan Shrestha acknowledged the valuable contributions of past leaders and stressed the need for a clear academic calendar for the Service Commission.

Celebrating Growth and Values

Director of the School of Business, Associate Prof. Dr. Srijan Gyawali, said the university’s anniversary was being celebrated with pride and joy. He called for a shared commitment to make meaningful contributions—whether through hard work or ideas—to help the university grow stronger.

Insights from the Curriculum Development Center

Executive Director of the Curriculum Development Center, Associate Prof. Dr. Purnabahadur Khand, stated that the university maintains strong academic standards and its impact continues to grow across Nepal.

Voices from the Staff Union

Bandana Godar Thapa, Acting Chairperson of the Staff Union, highlighted the need for clarity in transfer, promotion, and career development processes. She also emphasized the importance of staff training and research opportunities.

Purushottam Ranabhat, a staff member honored with the long-service medal, spoke about the importance of maintaining the quality of education and encouraged staff to take their responsibilities seriously in helping the university move forward.

Welcome and Closing

Associate Administrator Tejnarayan Parajuli delivered the welcome speech. He appreciated the efforts of those who helped shape the university and urged everyone to continue working to uphold its reputation.
