UN Day Marked at Shree Birendra Peace Training Centre

The Nepali Army observed United Nations Day in a grand manner by organizing a special programme at Shree Birendra Peace Operations Training Centre, Panchkhal.

According to the Nepali Army, the Day was marked on Thursday with a special programme held under the chief guestship of Chief of Army Staff General Ashok Raj Sigdel. The event was attended by the Defence Secretary, the Chief of General Staff, heads and officials of Nepal Police, Armed Police Force Nepal, and the National Investigation Department, local representatives, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, defence attachés of friendly nations, media personnel, as well as Generals, officers, junior commissioned officers, and other ranks of the Nepali Army.

Responding to the call of the United Nations since 1958, Nepal has been deploying peacekeepers and currently holds the first position among troop-contributing countries, as well as the first position among countries deploying women peacekeepers.

Under various United Nations missions, a total of 5,819 Nepali Army peacekeepers are presently serving in 10 different missions across the world. In the course of contributing to global peace, 74 Nepali Army personnel have attained martyrdom, and 75 personnel have been injured.
