Accelerating Development of Pashupati Hindu University

26 December 2023, Kathmandu – In a significant move to bolster cultural and educational development, Nepal's Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Sudan Kirati, has urged for expedited efforts in establishing the Pashupati Hindu University. This directive was issued during a meeting chaired by Dr. Jagman Gurung, reflecting the government's commitment to advancing religious and cultural education.

Progress and Coordination:

Minister Kirati, who also presides over the Pashupati Area Development Fund, emphasized the need for a detailed progress report from the committee formed in April 2023. He also highlighted the importance of identifying necessary coordination and initiatives at the ministry level to facilitate the university's establishment.

Committee's Current Status:

Members of the committee, currently in the research and drafting phase, expressed their commitment to the project. Dr. Ghanshyam Khatiwada, a key figure in the committee and former executive director of the Pashupati Area Development Fund, noted that streamlining policy decisions could significantly accelerate the university's establishment.

Focus on Study and Research:

The university is poised to prioritize extensive study and research, with a preliminary plan already in motion. Chetanath Gautam, another committee member, revealed that the institution would conduct in-depth studies of all religious scriptures native to Nepal.

A Global Hub for Nepal-Centric Research:

Dr. Prem Bahadur Khatri, a committee member, expressed that the university aims to become a leading center for Nepal-oriented research in religion, scriptures, and culture on a global scale.

Innovative Educational Model:

Kamal Dhakal, also on the committee, shed light on the unique educational model of the university. Operating on the Guthi concept, the university will be independent, not affiliated with any existing university, and will admit graduates through a specific process. This approach symbolizes national pride and the cultural significance of Pashupati and Hindu traditions.

The Minister's instructions to the Regional Development Fund to avoid delays underline the project's significance for Nepal's cultural and educational landscape. The establishment of Pashupati Hindu University not only promises to be a cornerstone in the preservation and promotion of Nepalese heritage but also positions Nepal as a key player in global religious and cultural studies.
