Bhotekoshi Flood: 233 Students Missing, 17 Confirmed Swept Away

A total of 233 students from Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading districts have gone missing due to the flood in the Bhotekoshi River on Bhadau 10, while 17 students have been confirmed to have been swept away by the flood. Sixteen teachers are also missing in the flood.

According to the latest information provided by the Ministry of Education and Sports on Tuesday, initial reports indicated that 250 students were missing. However, updated figures have confirmed that 233 students remain missing and 17 were swept away. The Ministry said the number could increase as search and rescue operations are still underway.

According to Ministry data, the highest number of casualties has been reported at Nilkantha Secondary School in Rasuwa.

Rasuwa

• Nilkantha Secondary School: 200 students and 4 teachers missing

• Komisyame Wangfel Secondary School: 16 students and 1 teacher swept away by the flood

• Nepal National Basic School: 6 teachers missing

• Chipleti Basic School: 4 students missing

• Nava Bijaya Secondary School: 2 teachers missing

• Highland Secondary School: 6 students missing

• Gosaikunda English Boarding School: 9 students missing

Nuwakot

• Chandeshwari Secondary School: 12 students missing and 1 student swept away by the flood

Dhading

• Deurali Secondary School: 1 teacher missing

• Palpa Samari Bhanjyang Secondary School: 1 teacher missing

• Pashupati Secondary School: 1 teacher missing

• New Kibo Boarding School: 1 student missing

The Ministry will send separate teams to all three flood-affected districts on Wednesday to assess the situation. According to Joint Secretary Shriprasad Bhattarai, who is also the Ministry’s spokesperson, the teams will study the overall educational situation in the districts and prepare a report within one week.

Spokesperson Bhattarai said plans for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of schools and the rehabilitation of teachers and students will be prepared based on the report.
