Deans of Two Faculties Appointed - Agriculture and Forestry University:

Deans of two faculties have been appointed of Agriculture and Forestry University. Dean has been appointed in the vacant Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, and Fisheries since 1st Jestha, 2077.

According to the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Dr. Punya Prasad Regmi, the Dean has been appointed from the names recommended by the selection committee. Accordingly, Prof. Jay Prakash Dutt has been appointed in the Faculty of Agriculture and Prof. Dr. Hom Bahadur Basnet in Animal Science.

In agriculture, the names of three persons including Prof. Dr. Arvind Kumar Srivastava and Prof. Dr. Arjun Kumar Shrestha were recommended. Similarly, three names including Prof. Dr. Sumila Rai and Prof. Dr. Bhuminandan Devkota were recommended in Animal Science. Seven applications were received from both faculties. The selection committee has recommended three of them.

Prof. Dr. Regmi informed that the Dean has been appointed by the Executive Council from the recommended names. Similarly, Prof. Dr. Arjun Kumar Shrestha has been appointed as the Director of Research. Shrestha had earlier been the planning director of the same university.

The post was vacant after Prof. Dr. Nawaraj Devkota, Director of Research, became the Vice-Chancellor of Gandaki State Government University.

Similarly, 11 applications have been received as per the call of the university to appoint a registrar through open competition. According to Regmi, the names of three of them are being prepared for recommendation to the Chancellor. It is understood that the selection committee has recommended the names of three out of 11 candidates to the Vice-Chancellor. Regmi has so far refused to make his name public. The post of the registrar in the university has been vacant since 12th Magh, 2077. Due to the drought, the university assembly could not be held.

Stating that the appointment is not satisfactory, the Nepal Progressive Professors' Association of the university has locked the central office. The organization has demanded the resignation of the vice-chancellor stating that he was appointed alone. Vice-Chancellor Regmi, on the other hand, said that he has completed all the procedures and moved ahead with the appointment.
