Mahakavi Devkota Campus and Sarbottam Cement
Mahakavi Devkota Campus, located in Sunwal of West Nawalparasi, has signed an agreement under which Sarbottam Cement Industry Private Limited will provide employment every year to four (4) skilled human resources after they complete their studies at the campus.
Targeted at the students of the campus, this agreement between Mahakavi Devkota Campus and Sarbottam Cement Industry Private Limited states that the industry will provide jobs in the industry each year to four skilled human resources from the campus.
Opportunities for Local Youth and the Industry
According to the General Manager of Sarbottam Cement Industry, Netra Ghimire, this arrangement, on the one hand, provides employment opportunities for local youths, and on the other hand, enables the industry to receive qualified and trained employees. The goal is to prevent the human resources produced by the campus from migrating elsewhere and to use their skills and knowledge locally.
Campus View on Education and Employment
The campus has been making students proficient in theoretical knowledge as well as practical skills. This employment agreement with Sarbottam Cement is regarded as the success of its educational effort.
According to the Chairperson of the Campus Management Committee, Krishna Lamichhane, it provides a guarantee of employment for students after they complete their studies at the campus. This cooperation will play an important role in enhancing the academic quality of the campus and making the future of the students brighter.
Local Context and Impact
The main factory of the industry is located in Sunwal–11. This agreement has become, to some extent, a matter of relief for students in the West Nawalparasi region.
It is expected that, after obtaining higher education, this will reduce to some degree the compulsion to wander in search of employment.
A Model for Other Institutions and Industries
In this model, educational institutions produce human resources according to the needs of the industry, and the industry, in turn, provides employment to those same human resources with priority. This approach can also be exemplary for other educational institutions and industries.
