Janaki Rural Municipality Runs Cyber Crime and Safety Awareness Program
Janaki Rural Municipality in Banke has conducted an awareness program on cyber crime and safety targeting students.
The program, launched under the rural municipality’s coordination, includes participation from around 40 students and teachers from eight secondary schools within Janaki Rural Municipality.
Two-Day Training Focus Areas

Practical ways to stay safe from cyber crime
He stated that the correct use of technology is a present-day necessity, adding that since students are active users of the digital world, society can become safer if they themselves become aware.
Messages from Local Leadership
Deputy Chairperson Rampyari Yadav said the role of students is extremely important for Janaki Rural Municipality’s prosperity and good governance, and noted that only the correct use of technology can move society in a positive direction.
Chief Administrative Officer Parashuram Upadhyay urged participants not to view cyber technology only negatively and emphasized its positive use. He also said that legal awareness is necessary along with knowledge of technology.
District Police Briefing on Cyber Crime Situation
Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepak Patali, spokesperson of the District Police Office, Banke, shared information with statistics about the growing cyber crime situation in the district.
According to him, up to the end of Poush in the current fiscal year, a case has been registered against one person for character assassination through social media. He added that although around 500 complaints were received, most cases were resolved through discussion and mutual understanding.

Social Development Coordinator Ramachal Dhobi alerted students about precautions to follow while using social media. He especially urged them to:

Facilitation and Training Support
Police Inspector Ramesh Bisht is providing facilitation and training during the program. He shared information on the relationship between cyber crime and child marriage, the social and mental negative impacts it can cause, measures for reduction, and existing legal provisions.
The rural municipality also stated that Information Technology Officer Bikash GC, Chief Administrative Officer Parashuram Upadhyay, IT expert Ankit Srivastav, and others will facilitate the two-day training.
Participant Reactions
Student Kalpana Barma said she learned methods to use social media safely through the training. Another student, Shivani Jaiswal, said she became more cautious after learning about different ways online fraud occurs and the measures to avoid it.
