Janakpurdham Mayor Manoj Kumar Sah Awarded 'Mahamurkh' Title by Mithila Natyakala Parishad
The Mithila Natyakala Parishad (MINAP) awarded Janakpurdham sub-metropolitan Mayor Manoj Kumar Sah the 'Mahamurkh' title during its two-day Holi festival event. The title is awarded to individuals who have contributed significantly to society, despite the name's negative connotation.
The Mahamurkh conference concluded on the second day of the Hori Mahotsav festival organized by the Mithila Natyakala Parishad to celebrate the Fagu festival. The 'Patmurkha' title was also awarded to journalist Rishi Dhamala during the event.
MINAP has been organizing the Damfa competition and Mahamurka conference since 2006 to preserve the dying tradition of Fagu songs in the Mithilanchal region. The council typically awards satirical titles such as Mahamurkh, Patmurkh, Harasankh, and Daporsankh to special guests.
Apart from Mayor Manoj Kumar Sah and journalist Rishi Dhamala, Dr. Sanu Sah, Kiran Jha Reshmi, Birendra Raman, Balram Mahato Rekha Jha, Sanjay Kumar Jha, Bibha Thakur, Hariprasad Mandal, and Rataneshwarlal Karna were awarded the title of fool for their contributions to society.
MINAP's long-standing commitment to promoting Mithila art and culture has been instrumental in organizing the Mahamurkha conference on the eve of the Holi festival. The conference featured local poets performing comic poetry and Fagu songs, while artists from MINAP presented a humorous play.
In the past, Bhogendra Jha, Lal Babu Raut, Lal Kishore Shah, Sheetal Jha, CK Lal, Ram Bharosh Kapdi, and others have also been awarded the Mahamurkh title by MINAP for their significant contributions to social, political, and other fields.
Overall, the Mahamurkh conference and award ceremony is an excellent initiative to recognize individuals' contributions to society and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Mithilanchal region.
