A 7,000-Book International-Level Library Established at a Remote Residential School

An international-level library with a collection of seven thousand books has been established at a remote residential school in Jumla. The library has been set up at Hima Residential School located in Ward No. 5 of Hima Rural Municipality. Australian author and trainer Gavin Kemran brought to Nepal books he had collected in his country and established the library at the residential school run by Hima Rural Municipality.
In the residential school established by Hima Rural Municipality for orphaned children, desks, benches, carpets, and painting work have been completed in four rooms of the school along with the library. With facilitation by senior journalist Manrishi Dhital, a five-member team including Gavin reached the school and personally carried out the painting work through their own labor.
After the library and classrooms in this remote area became book-oriented and improved, the local government and stakeholders expressed their gratitude. During the library handover program, Rural Municipality Chairperson Laxman Bahadur Shahi thanked author Gavin and facilitator Dhital’s team for coming from across seven seas and creating a library in the village school. He stated that this work has provided learning as a model effort and emphasized that the Rural Municipality would take responsibility for its protection.
Supporting Australian author Gavin expressed happiness that he was able to work here by collecting small amounts of money and books. He also requested that the library be protected. Chief District Officer Dipak Poudel thanked the supporting bodies and the Rural Municipality for the good work. Senior journalist Manrishi Dhital expressed thanks to the Rural Municipality and all concerned stakeholders who supported coordination for this work.
Teacher Kale Bahadur Shahi of Hima Residential School thanked the supporting bodies for improving the children’s classrooms. After the school became more book-oriented and the library was established, the students were also happy.
The students stated that studying would become easier after carpets, desks, and benches were added in a school where the carpets for students to sit on were not good. They expressed thanks to the supporters and the local government for this work.
The school was established during the tenure of Hima Rural Municipality’s first Chairperson Raj Bahadur Shahi and Vice-Chairperson Himali Rokaya to ensure the education of orphaned and underprivileged children.
The school is currently being further improved through efforts by the local government. The Rural Municipality has also honored the individuals who supported the library and the school.
