Pokhara Mayor Calls for Better Results in Community Schools

Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Dhanraj Acharya has said that community schools should produce better results in proportion to the state’s investment. Inaugurating the second district council of the Nepal Teachers Federation, Kaski, in Pokhara today, he stated that although the state’s investment in community schools is good, corresponding results have not been achieved.

Mayor Acharya said the Teachers Federation should pay special attention to the situation where community schools have not been able to deliver satisfactory results despite substantial investment. He added that the quality of a school improves when the headteacher provides good leadership, and, with that thinking, the metropolis has been providing incentive amounts to headteachers to some extent.

Chief Loknath Acharya of the Education Development and Coordination Unit, Kaski, urged teachers to focus on fulfilling their duties instead of complaining that local levels have pressured them. Praising the role played by the Teachers Federation, Kaski, in addressing educational issues including the adjustment of teacher posts in Kaski, he stressed that everyone’s activities should be student-centered.

Deepak Poudel, founding chair of the Nepal Teachers Union, Kaski, recalled Kaski’s education movement and pointed out the need for everyone to work together for professional interests. Central Vice-Chair of the Nepal Teachers Federation Ram Pokharel said the achievements of the teachers’ movement that lasted 29 days on the Federation’s call would become visible gradually.

In the program chaired by Bholanath Poudel, Chair of the Nepal Teachers Federation, Kaski, Co-chair Dilliram Baral, Chair of the Nepal National Teachers Organization, Kaski, Tirtharaj Dhakal, and Secretary of the Nepal Teachers Association, Kaski, Taranath Bhandari, among others, emphasized that the Federation should play a leading role in safeguarding the rights and interests of teachers and staff.

On the occasion, honoring special contributions to Kaski’s education movement, the program honored Deepak Poudel, founding chair of the Nepal Teachers Union, Kaski; former Union chair Jagannath Adhikari; Federation Central Vice-Chair Ram Pokharel; outgoing Kaski chair Bodhraj Poudel; outgoing secretary Maniram Kandel; and Rudranath Sapkota.
