Kanti Children's Hospital to be transformed into Child Health Academy

The Kanti Children's Hospital, also known as Kanti Bal Hospital, is set to be transformed into a 'Child Health Academy' in Nepal. The Director of the hospital, Dr. Yuvanidhi Basaula, has announced that a detailed project report (DPR) has been prepared for this purpose, with a cost of approximately 9.3 billion Nepalese rupees.

The construction of DPR has already cost 28 million Nepalese rupees, and the budget for the next fiscal year has been requested for 25 percent of the total budget. The project is expected to commence from the next financial year, with the construction of six buildings in the first phase, covering an area of 95 ropani of Kanti Children's Hospital.

As per the project, three hospitals (A, B, and C blocks) with a total of 1000 beds will be operated, with one block dedicated to an educational institution and another to hostels and staff quarters. The aim of this transformation is to develop all seven provinces of Nepal as referral hospitals for children and provide all specialized services for children's health.

The Child Health Institute will be developed as a research center for child health studies by teaching higher education studies related to child health, said Dr. Krishna Paudel, Head of Policy and Planning Division, Ministry of Health and Population. After the Kanti Children's Hospital becomes a Child Health Academy, it will be easier to formulate a national policy for child treatment. The MD/MS program will be conducted at full capacity under the concept of the child health institute.

The transformation of Kanti Children's Hospital into a Child Health Academy is expected to be a game-changer in Nepal's child healthcare system, with a focus on developing all provinces as referral hospitals for children and providing specialized services for children's health.
