Kathmandu University’s 31st Convocation: Minister Pokharel Says Quality Education Will Be Provided in Nepal
Education and Sports Minister Sasmit Pokharel has said the government is working with the goal of providing quality education within Nepal. Speaking today at the 31st convocation ceremony of Kathmandu University (KU) in Dhulikhel, Kavrepalanchok, he expressed the view that the active role of educated youths is necessary to build a prosperous and advanced society.
Minister Pokharel stated that the government is making efforts to build the kind of advanced society envisioned by the new generation. “We are making efforts on the kind of society you have imagined building; we will try a lot, and the role of youths must be active in that,” he said.
Informing that Kathmandu University has so far produced more than 51,000 human resources in various disciplines, Minister Pokharel expressed the expectation that they should also support the government in fulfilling the dream envisioned for an advanced society. He also urged the graduating students to use the knowledge, skills, and experience gained from KU within Nepal and contribute to nation-building.
Reassuring the graduating students, he said, “Do not be carried away; opportunities can be found in Nepal, and we ourselves will also create opportunities.” On the occasion, Minister Pokharel presented academic certificates to students who received degrees in various disciplines.
At the ceremony, Kathmandu University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rishikesh Wagle emphasized that, along with the rapid development of artificial intelligence and automation, technical competence alone is not enough, and wisdom, ethics, cultural awareness, and responsibility toward the nation must also be advanced together.
Similarly, invited guest Prof. Dr. Bhushan Patwardhan, Vice-Chancellor of Deccan College Post-Graduate and Research Institute in India, pointed out the need to further strengthen the exchange of education, research, and traditional knowledge between Nepal and India. He urged students to use the education gained at the university for the benefit of society, with confidence, ethics, and responsibility, in a way that turns challenges into opportunities.
