Makwanpur Multiple Campus Set to Transform into a University

Hetauda, Makwanpur, September 18, 2023 - In a landmark decision that marks a significant development for higher education in Nepal, Makwanpur Multiple Campus in Hetauda is slated to become a university. The momentous announcement was made following an all-party meeting held today, chaired by Bagmati Province Chief Minister Shalikram Jamkattel.

Unanimous Decision for Educational Advancement

The consultative meeting was convened by the Ministry of Social Development of Bagmati Province and saw the participation of a diverse group of stakeholders. Present at the gathering were ministers from the current provincial government, former ministers, leaders from various political parties, Members of Parliament (MPs), educational experts, and heads of administrative bodies.

All agreed unanimously to elevate Makwanpur Multiple Campus to university status. Signatures are also being collected to kick-start the construction and formal establishment of the institution.

A Matter of Pride for the Province

Participants in the meeting expressed that the transformation of the campus into a university is not just a development but a "matter of pride" for the region. Among those who lent their voices to the cause were former Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, Dormani Paudel, and members of the provincial assembly including Eklal Shrestha, Lakshmi Shrestha, and Premwahadur Pulami. Other notable participants included Lalit Ghalan, head of the Makwanpur District Coordination Committee, Buddha Lama, chairman of the Nepali Congress Makwanpur, and Sagar Thapa of Rashtriya Prajatantra Party.

What This Means for Makwanpur and Nepal

  • Educational Boom: The new university is expected to become a hub for quality education and research, attracting students not just from Makwanpur but from across Nepal.

  • Economic Growth: Universities often act as economic catalysts. The establishment of the institution is expected to generate employment and business opportunities in the surrounding areas.

  • Cultural Impact: Universities often serve as cultural centers, and this new institution will likely promote cultural exchanges and foster a sense of community.

As signatures are gathered and preparations commence, it is clear that this milestone decision is much more than an educational development; it is a significant leap toward a brighter future for the community and the nation as a whole.
