Nationwide Suggestions Collection Begins for Revision of National Curriculum Framework for School Education

The government has begun collecting suggestions and feedback from across the country to revise the National Curriculum Framework for School Education, 2076. Following a ministerial-level decision of the Ministry of Education and Sports, the National Curriculum Framework Revision Task Force has started gathering feedback from stakeholders with the aim of making the curriculum timely, practical, life-oriented, and effective.

The task force has formed seven teams to collect suggestions at the field level in 28 districts across all seven provinces. The interaction program, which began last Wednesday, will continue until Bhadau 30. As part of the process, direct interactions are being held with teachers, students, headteachers, parents, experts, policymakers, local governments, and other stakeholders in different districts.

According to Mahendra Parajuli, Executive Director of the Curriculum Development Center, suggestions will be collected from 28 districts in the first phase. Feedback will then be sought from all 77 Education Development and Coordination Units, while suggestions will also be received through the Center's website. Executive Director Parajuli said the target is to complete the collection of suggestions and feedback before Tihar.

Following a decision of the 98th meeting of the National Curriculum and Assessment Council, the National Curriculum Framework Revision Task Force was formed last Baisakh under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Bal Chandra Luitel. The 12 thematic groups under the task force will visit provincial and district levels to collect suggestions.

The ministry has stated that Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel, the minister's chief adviser, and senior ministry officials will also participate in the suggestion collection programs in some districts. Shailendra Jha, Chief Adviser to the Education Minister, said the curriculum would be revised by remaining free from intellectual bias, understanding the actual situation in the field, and keeping the future of coming generations at the center.

According to the action plan of the Curriculum Development Center, the provinces and districts where the field programs will be conducted are as follows:

• Koshi Province: Morang, Dhankuta, and Sankhuwasabha

• Bagmati Province: Dolakha, Makwanpur, and Kathmandu

• Gandaki Province: Gorkha, Kaski, and Tanahun

• Lumbini Province: Pyuthan, Rupandehi, and Dang

• Karnali Province: Mugu, Surkhet, and Dailekh

• Sudurpashchim Province: Kailali, Dadeldhura, Doti, and Baitadi

• Madhesh Province: All eight districts of the province

The Center has stated that discussions will be held with representatives of the respective provincial ministries of social development, local governments, community and institutional schools, Education Development and Coordination Units, and other concerned bodies. The suggestions received through these discussions will be used as a basis for revising the curriculum.
