Need to Strengthen Community Schools: Education and Political Leaders

In a recent program on political responsibility in strengthening public education held in Kailali, education and political leaders emphasized the need to strengthen the educational level of community schools. The program was attended by various leaders of political parties and the education sector in Far West Province.

Weaknesses in Management rather than Policies Hindering Educational Improvement

CPN (UML) Province Secretary, Dharmaraj Pathak, believes that the educational level of community schools has not improved due to weaknesses in management rather than policies. He stressed that schools in the private sector maintain quality with the same policy. Pathak also suggested that stakeholders should focus on improving their own weaknesses instead of blaming others for the poor state of public education.

Lack of Interest from Parents and Teachers a Barrier to Improvement

Another assembly member, Ramesh Singh Dhami, pointed out that parents and teachers are not interested in improving community schools. However, educational engineer Milanraj Dharel presented a document indicating that 85% of the students in Far West are studying in public schools, making it crucial to improve community education.

Perspective of High-Level Employees and Policy Makers a Hindrance to Educational Reform

Tapendra Bhushal of Nepali Congress discussed that the perspective of high-level employees is an obstacle to educational reform. Meanwhile, Nandraj Bhatta, the state president of the Rastriya Janamorcha, believes that community education in Nepal will not improve until the children of policy makers study in community schools.

The Need for Improved Community Education

Child rights activist Kiran Thapa facilitated the program, and most of the participants expressed their concern that community education in Nepal only produces unemployed people and ordinary laborers in India. The consensus was that policies need to be reformed, and stakeholders must be responsible for improving public education to ensure a better future for the younger generation.
