Nepal Army 16-year Term for Pension:

The Ministry of Finance has approved the proposal made by the Ministry of Defense to amend the military regulations to provide pension within 16 years. Earlier, the retirement period for all soldiers serving in the army was fixed at 20 years.

By amending sub-rule (2) of rule 80 of the Military Rules 2069, the retirement period of followers and soldiers at any level has been provided to be 16 years. The retirement period of Piuth, Amaldar, and Hudda will be 17 years. Similarly, the pension period of Jamdar will be 18 years and that of Subedar and Chief Subedar will be 19 years. In the case of Sahayak Senani and other senior military officers, the retirement period will be 20 years.

Secretary at the Ministry of Defense Rashmiraj Pandey said that the retirement period of the army has been changed in the revised rules of the army. ‘Military service regulations are in the process of being amended. The Ministry of Finance has already approved it. Accordingly, the retirement period for soldiers and followers has been fixed at 16 years, 'he said, adding,' It is still in process. It takes time to get legal recognition. We sent it to the Ministry of Law for approval. Then it made sense. The Ministry of Law had agreed to amend the defense last Poush 19. The defense then sent it to the finance ministry.

The new regulations approved by the Ministry of Finance state, “A soldier who enlists in the Nepal Army on or after 28th Baishakh, 2060 BS will be entitled to retirement after taking voluntary retirement from the service with the approval of the concerned departmental head after serving in the army for more than the following period. Sahayak Senani and above Maharathi 20 years, Subedar and Chief Subedar 19 years, Jamdar 18 years, Piuth, Amaldar and Hudda 17 years, Followers and Sipahi (Soldier) 16 years.

At present, there is a provision for retirement in the army as per the provisions of the Military Service Regulations, 2069 BS. As per sub-rule (2) of rule 80 of the rules, the retirement period for military personnel recruited from 28th Baishakh, 2060 BS was fixed at 20 years irrespective of their position.

In the case of those who were admitted earlier, the pension period was different according to the rank. According to Rule 1 of the Rules, the retirement period was 20 years for Sahayak Senani and above, 17 years for Jamdar, Subedar, and Chief Subedar, and 16 years for followers and above.

Although there are about 95,000 posts in the army, 87,972 are serving in the army. Of which 80 percent manpower is of soldier rank.
