Nepal Engineering Council Announces Upcoming License Examination Details

Kathmandu, October 11, 2023 - The engineering community in Kathmandu is bustling with activity as 6,023 engineering graduates gear up to take the much-anticipated license examination next month. Following a month-long application process, the Nepal Engineering Council has seen a surge in the number of applications from eager engineers ready to get licensed. The Nepal Engineering Council is gearing up for the next significant license examination slated for November, with a massive surge in applications.

By the Numbers:

  • 6,023 engineering graduates have registered for the upcoming exam, reflecting the high demand and enthusiasm among aspiring engineers in Nepal.

  • 78,800 engineers to date have been licensed in Nepal, marking an impressive milestone for the nation's engineering sector.

A Closer Look at Previous Examinations:

  • In the first-ever examination:

    • 2,066 candidates appeared.
    • Only 565 succeeded, a pass rate of 28.16%.
    • From those who pursued their studies overseas, 378 sat for the test, with a mere 58 passing.
  • During the second round:

    • 2,468 individuals took the examination.
    • 801 candidates, or 33.87%, successfully cleared it.
    • Of the foreign-educated candidates, 404 appeared, but only 41 managed to pass.

What's New?:

  • The council introduced a 50% pass mark, meaning candidates need to score at least 50 out of the 100 marks to be successful.

  • The examination format will be entirely objective in nature, aiming to provide a clear and straightforward assessment process.

A Word from the Council:

Shivamangal Giri, the Council Registrar, emphasized the due diligence process. He mentioned that all applicant certificates would undergo a thorough review before the final list of eligible candidates is published. He also highlighted the council's commitment, noting that, "After providing licenses to past applicants, we initiated the examination process from last year. This year marks our third written examination."

In Retrospect:

With a trend of rigorous evaluations and a relatively low pass rate in the past, the announcement serves as a reminder to all aspiring engineers of the importance of adequate preparation. The change in the passing criterion and the examination pattern, however, could be a game-changer for many.
