39 Percent Pass Doctor License Exam in Nepal

The latest results of Nepal’s doctor license examination have raised serious concern — fewer than four in ten candidates were able to secure a pass.

The Nepal Medical Council (NMC) reported that out of 1,077 candidates who appeared for the 73rd license exam, only 421 passed. That puts the overall pass rate at just 39.09 percent. The exam was conducted over two days, on Wednesday and Thursday last week.

MBBS Pass Rate

MBBS graduates performed slightly better, but still, less than half were successful. Of the 894 candidates who appeared, only 386 cleared the exam — a pass rate of 42.19 percent.

A significant number — more than 500 candidates — did not meet the required standard and failed. Although 915 candidates had registered, 21 did not show up on exam day.

Total Registered 915

Passed 386 42.19%
Failed 508

BDS Pass Rate

The situation was even tougher for BDS graduates. Out of 183 participants, only 35 passed, giving a pass rate of just 18.62 percent.

Registrar Dr. Satish Kumar Dev explained that many candidates taking the exam this time were repeat examinees from previous sessions, which contributed to the lower overall success rate.
