The Curriculum Development Centre (CDC) of Tribhuvan University (TU) has officially discontinued the recognition and equivalence determination of higher education degrees obtained from institutions outside the university. The Centre announced that these services have been completely discontinued with effect from Ashoj 23, 2083.

Under the new provision introduced in Section 6(1), clause (छ३), of the University Grants Commission Act, 2050, through the Some Nepal Acts Amendment Act, 2082, the responsibility for determining the equivalence of academic degrees awarded by foreign universities or equivalent educational institutions has been transferred to the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Following this legal change, the Centre had already stopped accepting new equivalence applications from Shrawan 1, 2083.

The Centre stated that decisions on applications registered by the end of Ashadh 2083 had been made in accordance with the applicable rules, based on the available documents.

The amended Act requires records of degrees granted equivalence or recognition, along with details of the universities and educational institutions awarding those degrees, to be submitted to the University Grants Commission within three months of the date specified by the Act.

In accordance with this provision, the Centre formally discontinued its equivalence determination work from Ashoj 23, 2083, according to a notice issued on Ashoj 24, 2083.

The Curriculum Development Centre had been providing recognition and equivalence services for higher education qualifications for approximately five decades.

Applicants Advised to Collect Certificates After Dashain Holidays

The Centre has informed applicants whose applications were duly registered by the end of Ashadh 2083 and whose equivalence or recognition had already been approved, but who have yet to collect their certificates, to visit the Centre after the Dashain holidays to collect their certificates.
