Postponement of Class 12 Answer Sheets Examination by Higher Secondary Teachers Union Nepal (HISTUN)

In a recent development, the Higher Secondary Teachers Union Nepal (HISTUN) has made an announcement regarding the examination of class 12 answer sheets. The evaluation process, which was initially scheduled for Tuesday, June 27, 2023, has been deferred until Tuesday, July 4, 2023.

18-Point Demand Prompts Examination Postponement

The decision to postpone comes in light of an 18-point demand issued by HISTUN. General Secretary of HISTUN, Shankar Tiwari stated that the examination postponement will affect test centers across the country, a decision made in collaboration with the board.

Call for Conversion of Grant Quota into Teacher Vacancies

Among the many demands put forth by HISTUN is the conversion of the 4,000 grant quota provided by the government in 2067 into teacher vacancies. This, HISTUN believes, will address the challenges faced by teachers at the Umawi level (grades 11 and 12).

Demand for Teacher Tenure through Special Internal Competition

HISTUN has also appealed to the Teachers Service Commission to offer permanent positions through a special internal competition. This would exempt teachers who have been serving consistently since the enactment of the Federal Education Act from applying any age limit for one-time secondary education level positions.

Security of Position for Serving Teachers

Furthermore, HISTUN seeks job security for those teachers who, despite participating in open advertisements for permanent posts, have not been recommended for appointment by the commission. These teachers should not be dismissed until the permanent posts are filled. The union has called for provisions to be made based on the school's appointment.

The Road Ahead: Potential Further Agitation

HISTUN has scheduled various activities related to this movement until Tuesday, July 4, 2023. They have, however, warned of initiating another phase of agitation should their demands not be met. As we follow the evolving situation, it's clear that HISTUN is determined to secure better conditions and opportunities for teachers across Nepal.
