Kathmandu — Private school operators have announced that they will provide free education to children from landless settlements.
The operators made the announcement through a joint press statement issued on Sunday.
In the joint statement issued by PABSON, N-PABSON, HISSAN, and APEN, the organizations expressed serious concern over possible disruption to the education of children from such communities, in the context of the government accelerating the removal of landless settlements located along various riverbanks in Kathmandu Valley and in risky areas across the country.
Emphasizing that the fundamental right of children to basic education guaranteed by the Constitution of Nepal must not be violated under any circumstances, the organizations stated that they are committed to providing constructive support in coordination with local levels to resolve the problem in the current sensitive situation.
Under their institutional social responsibility, the operators have expressed readiness to coordinate with local levels and concerned bodies to provide necessary support and facilitation to ensure continuity of education for children from affected and genuine landless families.
Children from affected areas will be provided the opportunity to study free of cost in private schools located in the concerned areas.
The statement also mentions that all concerned organizations are prepared to arrange accommodation and transportation as needed and to implement other supportive measures in a systematic and effective manner.
The joint press statement was signed by APEN President Badri Prasad Dahal, N-PABSON President Subas Neupane, HISSAN President Yubaraj Sharma, and PABSON President Krishna Prasad Adhikari.
