Tri-Chandra Campus Students Call for Open Dialogue with Government

Kathmandu — The Free Student Union (FSU) of Tri-Chandra Multiple Campus, under Tribhuvan University, has called on the Education Minister for an open dialogue.

The FSU said it is seeking direct dialogue with the minister because Point No. 86 of the “administrative reform” agenda made public by the government on Chaitra 14, 2082, is connected with the interests and rights of students.

In an attention-drawing and appeal letter signed by FSU President Govinda Koirala, the union stated that the Ministry of Education and the government are not clear about the vision, nature, autonomy of ideological debate, and jurisdiction related to the provisions under Point No. 86.

The FSU has concluded that, without moving toward important dimensions of university reform, there appears to be a prejudiced intention to blame student politics for the overall decline of universities. It also stated that, instead of choosing progressive reform, efforts are being made to weaken student politics.

According to the letter, most students and stakeholders of Tri-Chandra Campus want to hold an open dialogue with the Education Minister on this agenda to understand the government’s intention and the real substance of the agenda.

The FSU has clarified that it will either support the government or present a dissenting view based on the need and outcome of the dialogue.

The union has also expressed hope that this program will restart the tradition of holding debates on government policies among universities and students.
