The British College Launches TBC Women in Business Initiative

September 05, 2022: The British College launched the “TBC Women in Business” 2022 an annual initiative with an objective to generate conversations, initiate knowledge sharing, foster networking and support, develop creative collaborations and contribute to the business and economic ecosystem in the country. This year’s theme was “Women in Entrepreneurship”.

As part of this initiative, the college hosted a panel discussion, keynote and networking session on “Fostering Female Entrepreneurship - A perspective of young and emerging entrepreneurs” on September 05, 2022 at The British College premises. The CEO of The British College, Mr. Rajen Kandel welcomed the participants where he addressed the college’s commitment to support the entrepreneurial ecosystem of Nepal through encouragement and upliftment of the culture of creativity, critical thinking and continuous learning.

The welcome address was followed by a panel discussion session. The panelists included Anushka Shrestha, former Miss Nepal and the Founder of Makkuse Sweets; Dr. Shrujana Shrestha, MD and Dermatologist of Absolute Aesthetics, prominent designer Siwangi Pradhan and Itchya Karki, founder of The Beauty Bar. The panel discussion was moderated by Ms. Nishtha Rajbhandari, who is the Programme Leader of the postgraduate business and management programme at TBC. All panelists shared their own entrepreneurship journey and expressed their views on startup opportunities and challenges, branding, networking and business sustainability.

Ms. Maggie Doyne, founder of BlinkNow foundation and winner of CNN Hero of the Year 2015 presented the keynote speech from the perspective of social entrepreneurship. Her inspirational speech focused on the need for young minds to identify and address the gaps within the nation and the importance of recognizing one’s own potential in generating positive social changes.

TBC’s very own EMBA student entrepreneur Ms. Sunita Sherpa, also the recipient of the prestigious national Commercially Important Person award shared her successful entrepreneurship journey as the co-founder of Felt and Yarn Pvt. Limited, which is one of the largest exporters of handicraft goods in Nepal. 

Finally, the event was closed by TBC’s Head of School of Business, Ms. Sunita Basnet, who emphasized the commitment of The British College to encourage and support women in business and social entrepreneurship. She also thanked the contributors and participants of the event. 

This event is one of the many efforts of the college to foster creative leaders and changemakers. The college aims to continue to enhance the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Nepal through a creative balance between corporate and social responsibility.
