Transportation Fare Rates Increased by 28 Percent

Urgent notice of the Department of Transport Management regarding the adjustment (Increased) of fares rates of passenger and freight vehicles operating inter-provincial level. It is a well-known fact that in the past, the fare rates for public transport were fixed at 35% and other indicators at 65%.

 Other indicators of transport fare rate have been kept unchanged since 2072 BS and the fare was adjusted on the basis of fuel only; Even in 2075-06-07, the adjustment was made not by market study but by increasing the rent by 10% overall. Due to the lack of market study for a long time, scientific transport fare rate could not be implemented.

Based on the market study and analysis conducted by the department on investment and expenditure related to the operation of public transport and consultation with stakeholders, the price increase in key indicators including transport, labor wages, fuel, tires, interest, operating expenses, hoarding, and operating profit. With the consent of the Government of Nepal, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport (Hon. Ministerial level) on 2078-03-27 regarding the adjustment to be made in the fare rate of transport vehicles; In accordance with sub-section (1) of section 96 of the Vehicle and Transport Management Act 2049, the work done by the Government of Nepal on the basis of point no. 20 of schedule 5 and point no.

The fare rate of public transport vehicles operating in two or more provinces (operating on national-level public transport routes) using the given authority has been adjusted as per the decision of this department dated 2078-03-29 with effect from the same date.
 
Adjustments made to the type of public transport fare
1) Passenger Vehicle: 28% (increase)
2) Cargo vehicles operating on hilly roads: 20% (increase)
3) Freight vehicles operating on Terai roads: 26% (increase)
